For our Thanksgiving festivities in Australia Tiffany made pumpkin pie.
Which, is kinda not a big deal right?
…until you realize that Australians are not familiar with the concept of putting pumpkins in a pie one would eat for dessert. That means no canned pumpkin to fill the pie.
Oh, and while we’re on the topic: They also don’t know what graham crackers are either so, consequently, no premade graham cracker crusts.
(how do you people LIVE!?!)
What this means is that in order to get to this:
Tiffany had to start with these:
And just kinda figure out the rest.
Which Greg did not think was actually possible to accomplish nowadays without the aid of modern industrial factory machinery or secret alchemical arts long lost to our forefathers and the mists of time…
So today, we are thankful for resourcefulness.
Well, Greg is anyway. Greg got pie. Pumpkin pie. Very likely the one and only pumpkin pie produced in that little town for the entire year.
Pie for which he was extremely thankful as well.
Don’t worry, we shared and did our best to return the favor and continue the international exchange of ideas…and odd foods.
And for all of you who might be about to get on Greg’s back about Tiffany doing all the heavy lifting, we would like to remind you that Greg does in fact pull his weight in the exotic American pie making realm.
Greg and Tiffany are traveling around the world on sailing yachts and keep a video blog of their (mis)adventures. If sailing to Tahiti on a 44 ft sailboat, 3-day delays for wine tastings, getting pooped on by seagulls, opening coconuts with dull machetes, sailing past tornadoes and ukulele Christmas carols are for you, then check them out atwww.CoastGuardCouple.com!
I made pumpkin pie completely from scratch!
And it was delicious!
Thanks Anna! I’m glad I could share it with you!
