FAUX-luru

Uluru, Northern Territory, Australia

OK so you finally figure out where the heck Uluru/Ayers rock is and you at long last secure some decent wheels to get you there…

…Then you dive for 6 HOURS until you see this

And you’re all –

Life achievement unlocked –

Uluru!

But you’d be wrong

because once again Australia lied to us

Mt. Connor (or, as we have come to name it “FAUX-luru”) is on the way to Uluru and for a solid 30 minutes the road drives right frigging at it…long enough for you to get excited and thinking “wow, we made GREAT time!” right before it jigs right and leaves the thing in the dust and you cursing the cruel nature of this inhospitable land.

Then about an hour later you get to another giant rock but this time you’re all wary until you see a sign

The rock is gorgeous, it does change colors throughout the day (especially during sunrise & sunset) and has a really interesting history as a spiritual center of the aboriginal faith but being as they aren’t allowed to tell you about it (more on that later) there is only so much you are allowed to learn.

So while it was neat and it was gorgeous, there was a cool history here and it was a fun road trip stop; it was also a giant rock in the middle of the desert.

..and the next day we set off for the coast

  1. Hey I think what you guys do is awesome. I have a million questions about how you actually do it (and how I can). I’d really appreciate an email if you’re open to answering some of them.
