The 7th Summit

Mt Kosciuszko, NSW, AU

(1/7 unlocked) Life Achievement:
Climb the 7 Summits.

Sure it’s not like it was freaking Everest or anything and yeah, it’s the smallest and kinda a part time member of the list but just for the record,

  1. People have died climbing this thing…
  2. It is without contention the highest point on one of Earth’s continents…
  3. We did make the ascent in full force hurricane winds…
  • In the winter…with snow…
  • And we did ski / snowboard down, so all that has gotta count for something!

When Greg decided it would be fun to climb to the “roof of Australia” (aka Mt Kosciuszko) and who else would he pick to join him but the man who introduced him to the concept of “Kiwi Moderate”

The guy who gave him a crash course in the Australian definition of “many steep steps”

Simply put, Greg figured he owed Dan some payback.

As for Tiffany?  Well, in her own words, Tiffany had the good sense not to climb a mountain where people, no matter how few and how long ago, had in fact died.  Particularly one of the seven summits mind you, in hurricane force winds and partial whiteouts from the clouds that raked the summit at 60 knots.

In Greg & Dan’s defense we could see the way down our whole time, the weather report called for less wind and…yeah…well Tiffany doesn’t find flagrant masochism to be a good time…which is just silly.

It should be noted that the majority of our oceanic mountaineering adventures involved significantly less snow.
