Lederhosen!

Munich, Germany

One of several murals over the urinals in Oktoberfest beer tents.

Who do these people think they are, Kiwis!?

We did our very best to have as authentic an experience as we could at Oktoberfest

We bought the cookie…and learned you’re not supposed to actually eat it.  (Who makes a cookie you’re not supposed to eat!?)

Hung out in the beer tents

Drank beer a liter at a time

Ate the bacon-cheese pretzel (the guy said it was a thing and hey, BACON!!)

And saw the faces of the 11am hangover

would this be the “nap of shame?”

Yes, that’s vomit he’s passed out next to.

But there was just one piece missing…

You see easily one of the best parts of our Oktoberfest experience was the outfits

Look, she has the braids!!

And the hats!  Oh my gosh the HATS!  If you are at all a fan of covering your brow in a fashionable and feathery way, Oktoberfest is the place for you.  Walking around and seeing the different ways people got their German pride on was one of the major highlights.

Well, as we’ve said the best way to experience a culture is to have a local guide right?  One of Greg’s old friends from college just happened to be in the Munich area and was more than willing to show us around and share a pint…er, liter.  It’s in liters there…and when our friend offered us the chance to try on real, authentic lederhosen …we mean, come on, we ain’t talking about the stuff you pick up at the shop outside the festival here.  This is the real deal.  Made with leather, embroidered.  Handed down for a few generations even.  How many times do you get the chance to wear authentic lederhosen in your life?

If this ain’t a life achievement, it should be.

We rocked it, even if we do say so ourselves.

At least it went better than that time we went for an authentic experience in the South pacific.
