A Museum of Video Games!

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

Between exploring amazing churches

Our adventures with street performers

Avoiding the katana-umbrella mafia

Tasting the all important local sushi and waffles:

And F-1 racing.  Did we mention the F-1 racing?

(Seriously, lots goes on here

We almost forgot to mention our favourite part of Melbourne…

Video games

And Melbourne, well as you can see with like most anything else you can think of, video games they got.

First and foremost our most fav place in Melbourne was the museum of the moving image it’s free, it’s interactive and hey, they have Mario Cart Wii on a projector screen!

(And we should all remember how Greg feels about projector screens…)

Along with 4 computers with Quake – on LAN –  for all you old school gamers out there. (Ah, memories)

They even have a do-it-yourself bullet time camera!!

Which,  in retrospect, would have been nice if they had posted some rules about how to use that thing.  One assumes, after watching the Matrix and stuff, that a bullet time cam is pretty much an immediate awesome-making machine.

It is not.

So for those of your who don’t know, the big thing about bullet time:

You’re supposed to pause in the middle of, also preferably at a particularly photogenic part of, your devastatingly awesome martial arts move and stay still while the camera is actually in motion.

Cuz if you don’t, well, it just doesn’t look quite as good.

Also, wearing black pleather has more of an effect than one would at first suspect.

See, and you thought all that “boring stuff” Tank skipped during Neo’s training was useless…

The local game stores follow suit by having free games to play.  Tiffany had never played a wii before and is that the original super mario brothers they have on that thing…

It’s not too shocking this museum was our favorite if one takes time to consider that we made friends with people based solely on them naming their boat after a mythical video-game creature.

About the authors

Greg and Tiffany are traveling around the world on sailing yachts and keep a video blog of their (mis)adventures.  If sailing to Tahiti on a 44 ft sailboat, 3-day delays for wine tastings, getting pooped on by seagulls, opening coconuts with dull machetes, sailing past tornadoes and ukulele Christmas carols are for you, then check them out at www.CoastGuardCouple.com!
