Bora Bora Business Day

Bora Bora, Society Islands, French Polynesia

While underway enroute to Bora Bora for our second visit we realized we had some business phone calls to make.  They weren’t anything huge; just checking in with our virtual assistant, following up with Greg’s old business partner, that kind of stuff.  But we figured since we already went and got the picture and all, we might as well actually have a business day in Bora Bora.

At its core, the work day is much the same as an inport workday is anywhere else:  Greg and Tiffany sit at their respective computers and type, take photos of documents, make phone calls on Skype, etc.  for a few hours at a time.

But there is something about our surroundings that just makes it somehow a little bit better.  Imagine this as the view from your office:

And there is something about sitting on a ship in the middle of a French Polynesian lagoon on wireless internet (which is notably better than a lot of other places we’ve been) that makes that routine business phone meeting so much more fun to attend:

Also, when you call someone from Bora Bora and leave a phone message, funny thing, people seem to call back a lot faster…

And finally after a grueling day’s work we went out for a business dinner with a few fellow crewmen from another boat and some locals who proved to us that French food extends far beyond snails and fish eggs:

So we got work done and we learned something new, what a productive day!

People have asked us if it’s annoying having to take some days out of our inport time to complete work and Tiffany’s response sums it up rather nicely: “We’d rather take a day or two out of our time in the islands and work than stay at home and never have seen the islands at all. “

    1. Bora Bora is amazing, but I still like Fakarava better – it’s quieter and has better diving! If you’re able, visit there instead! What’s the next place on your list?

  1. Ugh… UGH! You two have managed to do what I’d love to do, which is find a way to travel AND work. Or travel FOR work — one or the other. It’s probably on here somewhere, but what do you do?? More importantly, do you need an in-person assistant? Virtual ones are rubbish. 😉 Kidding! Mostly.

    1. Ha ha! Greg runs a seminar training company and I am a ship captain. We’ve got flexible work schedules, so it works out pretty well for us. 🙂 What is it you do?
